Do you really not charge a call-out fee?

Where is my stopcock?
In most homes it is under the kitchen sink. Otherwise check where the water main enters the house — a downstairs cloakroom, utility room, under the stairs or beneath a floorboard near the front door. Turn it clockwise to shut it off.
Can you deal with water coming through the ceiling?
Yes. Turn off the water at the stopcock and, if water is near light fittings, switch off the electricity. Tom will trace the leak, repair it and advise on drying out.
Leak Detection & Repairs
Can you find a leak without ripping everything out?
In most cases, yes. The source is traced from the evidence first so that only the area that needs opening up is disturbed.
Will my home insurance cover a leak?
Many policies include "trace and access" cover for finding hidden leaks. Check your policy — Tom can give you a written description of the fault and the work done for your insurer.
Is a dripping tap worth calling a plumber for?
A dripping tap usually needs a new washer or cartridge, which is a quick job. Left alone it wastes a surprising amount of water and can stain sinks and baths.
Blocked Drains
Do you charge a call-out fee for blocked drains?
No. There is no call-out fee, day or night. You only pay for the work carried out.
Can you clear an outside drain?
Yes. Blocked outside drains and gullies are covered as well as sinks, showers, baths and toilets. Call Tom to describe the problem.
Why does my drain smell?
Common causes are a dried-out or badly fitted trap, a build-up in the pipe, or a leak on the waste pipework. Tom will trace the source and fix it.
Pipework & Installations
Do you fit new taps, sinks and toilets?
Yes — supplying and fitting, or fitting items you have already bought. Just mention it in your enquiry.
Can you move my kitchen sink or washing machine?
Usually, yes. Water supply and waste can be re-routed; the practicalities depend on where the drainage runs, which Tom will check first.
Do you install boilers or central heating?
TSPD Plumbing focuses on water supply, waste and general plumbing. Please ask about any specific job and Tom will tell you straight whether it is something he does.
Appliance Connections
Can you plumb in a new washing machine where there was not one before?
Yes. A new supply and waste can usually be run from the nearest kitchen or bathroom pipework.
My washing machine leaks when it drains — can you help?
Often this is the waste connection or standpipe. Tom will check and correct the drainage setup.
Outside Tap Installation
How long does an outside tap installation take?
Most straightforward outside tap installations are completed within a couple of hours.
Why do I need a check valve?
It stops water that has been in a hose or bucket from being drawn back into your drinking water supply. It is a Water Regulations requirement.
Soil Stack Replacement
Do I need to arrange the scaffolding?
No — Tom arranges the scaffolders and coordinates the timing so the scaffold is up only as long as it needs to be.
How long does a soil stack replacement take?
It depends on the height of the property and the number of connections. You will be given a realistic timeline with your quote — and Tom sticks to it.

Will you come out for a small job?
Yes. Dripping taps, running toilets and small leaks are all welcome, and there is no call-out fee.
My cold water has gone to a trickle — what causes that?
It can be a partly closed or failing stopcock, a blockage, a leak on the supply, or an issue on the water company side. Tom will check the supply and tell you where the problem is.
